MERCED GROVE

We enjoyed our last breakfast at Blackberry Inn, and said our farewells to guest and hosts — it really was a very lovely place to stay. But before we set off back to Emeryville we took a visit to Merced Grove in the park. Though the smallest of the Sequoia trees groves, it had the advantage of being a place of few visitors. After a track of a mile or so we came upon the trees, and what a sight. They were so huge and really didn’t seem like trees at all, but rather living monoliths — it was very moving to be amongst them.
We then headed back The Courtyard Hotel not far from the Amtrak Rail Station ready for our 12 hour journey south tomorrow to Los Angeles.
