After splitting the ash, a long straight piece was sized into a rectangle on the bandsaw. Then the challenge of a tricky double bend. The piece was first steamed for about ten minutes to make it pliable. Then quickly transferred to the mould where the bow was pulled round, wedged in place and then on the other plane, the arms were formed. The bending wasn’t always successful! But eventually we each achieved our bend which was left in a retaining jig, which was then put into a drying cabinet for three days.
