A few miles north of Vlore is a peninsular of land which creates a large inland lagoon called Nartes. I drove out on a seriously pot holed track through a cool pine forrest. At the end of the track is Zvernec Island where the Albanian Orthodox Church run their summer camp programmes. The route out is via a very rickety timber walkway, not quite up to the standard of our TSL boardwalks! The old monastery buildings have been converted into accommodation and covered dining, with a games pitch and plenty to explore in the dense woodland — what a location!
