The lakeside resort has been popular since communist times because of its pleasant climate and wooded mountain scenery. It declined in 1991 when communism fell, but now there is reinvestment and a hopeful feel for new opportunities — but only seasonal.
The lake is deep, and has a tectonic origin. It supports a diverse variety of fish, some of which are endangered through over fishing, but thankfully new fish farming enterprises are emerging.
