Korce has a rather sophisticated feel about it. It was the seat of organised education in Albania, where the first school was opened in 1887, and where the countries standard alphabet was established. The city is intersected by wide paved boulevards and is well cared for. And it’s the only place in Albania where all of the water fountains work! By day the streets are calm and quiet, by evening it feels as though the whole population pours onto the streets and roads to promenade and drive, and to be seen.
