My last full day in Saranda. I’m first at breakfast (7am) and on the road by 7.45. Heading out on the main road to Gjirokastra, just 20 minutes along the road I pull off into the hills to The Blue Eye, an underwater spring that bubbles up through a deep pool through a rock opening that’s 45 metres deep. As you look down into the spring it’s electric blue and iridescent, quite mesmerising. It can produce up to 10 cubic metres of water a second which cascades into a torrent of water that rushes off through the woods. A perfect beginning to Sunday morning.
